After years of planning and a 2019 ballot measure that passed by just 26 votes, the Lift One Corridor redevelopment is finally entering major construction. The project will fundamentally transform the base of Aspen Mountain, delivering new lift infrastructure, an Aman destination hotel, and residential development that will reshape how visitors and residents experience the mountain.
The scope is ambitious. A new telemix lift—combining chairs and gondola cabins—will replace the aging Lift 1A. The 231,015-square-foot Lift One Lodge will include 112,000 square feet above ground. OKO Group's Aman hotel will bring the ultra-luxury hospitality brand to Aspen. Historic structures including Skiers' Chalet Lodge will be rehabilitated and relocated.
The 2025-2026 season sees preliminary work: water main installation, asbestos abatement, and structure stabilization. Spring 2026 brings major construction—excavation, shoring, and foundation work. The full construction timeline spans 40-44 months, with the new lift expected to be operational for the 2028-2029 season.
The City of Aspen's investment reflects public commitment: $4.36 million fixed contribution plus $4.57 million from Parks and Open Space. This public participation acknowledges that Lift One Corridor's transformation benefits the entire community, not merely private developers.
Real estate implications are significant. Properties with proximity to the redeveloped base area may see value appreciation as the corridor's amenities activate. Conversely, construction disruption over multiple years will affect nearby residents and businesses. The transformation requires patience.
