Notable Trade: Robert A.M. Stern's Bridgehampton Classic Sells for $8.3 Million

A Robert A.M. Stern-designed residence at 1 Mecox Field Lane in Bridgehampton has sold for $8,300,000, marking one of the more notable transactions in the village this winter.

The property, featured in the book Houses of the Hamptons, sits on 1.8 acres south of the highway, just minutes from some of the most beautiful ocean beaches on the East End. Terry Cohen of Compass represented the seller, while Chris Covert of the Modlin Group brought the buyer.

Designed in Stern's signature gambrel style, the 4,000-square-foot home offers four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms across multiple levels. The architecture blends traditional Hamptons vernacular with modern livability, a hallmark of Stern's residential work that has made him one of the most sought-after architects in the country.

Inside, the main level centers around a light-filled great room and dining area with a wood-burning fireplace. The marble eat-in kitchen is outfitted with Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Miele appliances. French doors open from the kitchen to a covered outdoor patio, creating seamless indoor-outdoor flow for entertaining.

The first floor also includes a welcoming foyer, powder room, family room, and a guest bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Upstairs, the primary suite features its own wood-burning fireplace and a private balcony overlooking the backyard. Two additional guest bedrooms share a full bathroom on this level.

The partially finished lower level adds practical square footage with laundry, a flexible recreation space, and room for a home gym or playroom.

Outside, the grounds are fully landscaped with mature hedging providing exceptional privacy. A gunite pool is paired with a pool house that includes a full bathroom and outdoor shower, the kind of setup that defines Hamptons summer living.

The $8.3 million sale reflects continued demand for architect-pedigree homes in prime Bridgehampton locations. South of the highway properties with ocean proximity, privacy, and design lineage remain among the most resilient assets in the Hamptons market.

For Stern collectors and Bridgehampton purists, this was a rare opportunity. The new owners are getting not just a house, but a piece of Hamptons architectural history.
